Q: We often receive inquiries from customers who simply complain about slow internet speeds. They have modified their contracts with Chunghwa Telecom to increase the speed, but the problem persists.
In many cases, these problems stem from a lack of understanding of the network paths that lead to the problem.
Answer Case 1
Wi-Fi signal interference
This is a common problem in a home environment, but if your phone suddenly slows down while connected to Wi-Fi, don't blame the network for the slowdown.
Most of the time, this is caused by a neighbor installing new Wi-Fi or appliances.
To avoid this, install a Wi-Fi with a stronger signal or use a newer Wi-Fi specification so that the connection is smoother and not subject to signal interference.

The number of users increases
Increasing Chunghwa Telecom's network speed simply because of the large number of users would be a waste.
One problem with having a large number of users is that the number of communications per second increases, which means you need equipment that can handle this increase.
When I say "communication volume," I'm not referring to speed, but rather the number of devices that can handle communication simultaneously.
Specifically, it is important to understand the number of devices that are connected and used simultaneously, including computers, smartphones, and other devices.
As the number of connected devices increases, you need equipment that can control all of them simultaneously, and using a cheap IP router can be unstable.
Another option is to prepare equipment that can control the communication speed of each user.
Chunghwa Telecom's network speed only reflects the speed available on a user's line at one time; not all users of the line will be able to use the same speed at the same time.
For example, if Chunghwa Telecom's speed is 500Mbps, then if 10 people use the line at the same time, each person can only use 50Mbps.
In addition, if one person uses 250Mbps first, then the remaining 9 people must use the remaining 250Mbps.
This means each person can only use 27.8Mbps.
To prevent this from happening, we install and configure our equipment in advance to limit everyone's communication speed.
It's important to note that it's not necessary to provide 100Mbps to everyone.
Even video conferencing, which can take up a lot of communication speed, can be easily used with a speed of 5 to 30 Mbps.

There is a problem with the network cable or connector.
Many people may believe that network cables have no effect on internet speeds, but this isn't true. Network cables consist of eight copper wires, and only when all eight are connected can a 1 Gbps internet speed be guaranteed. Even if one wire is broken, the maximum guaranteed speed is only 100 Mbps. We'll check for issues with the cables or connectors.

Issues accessing internal NAS or servers
Large companies often operate their own NAS storage and servers. Since these devices do not need to go through the Chunghwa Telecom modem when accessed from internal computers, if problems occur, the NAS or server should be suspected, or the computer connected to it.
